Places to visit

A place that every orthodox visit is The Footstep of St. Paul and the 'Elia" , which is a park with plenty of trees and shops that you can relax and drink coffee.The traditional neighbourhood of Barbouta also worth a visit.

Museums-Churches

A very important and historical and a great monument is The Mothertown of Veroia . A museum that someone may visit is The Archaeological Museum of Veroia.Also the 'Footstep of Apostle Paul' is a great church-sight were Apostle Paul teached residents of Veroia to believe at Christ.Apostle Paul came to Veroia because it was the period of persecutions and his initial destination was Thessaloniki,a country near to Veroia but he couldn't go there for this reason.

Vergina-Veria, the ancient capital of Macedonia

Vergina is a well known resort which is located near to our town. It was the ancient capital of Macedonia. Nowadays, it is used as tourist attraction and thousand people from all over the world visit that resort so as to see archaeological monument and the well-known Philip's grave. UNESCO has recognised Vergina as a world heritage site.

Ski Center Seli: It is just 24 km from Veria and is ideal for skiers.At the starting point of the Seli National Ski Center (1500 m.) there are two full equiped Shelters, a Private guesthouse, restaurants and cafe- bars and organized ski schools with ski equipment and more. Of course there is a Health center, fully medically and pharmaceutically equipped and staffed with specialized nurses and doctors, as well as a doctor in charge during weekends and Holidays for first aid to skiers.
Aliakmona Festival: Summer Festival held every year next to the river Aliakmona and just 5 km far from the center of Veria. Through the magic of music offers its guests a pleasant and fantastic adventure in the nature. The specially designed area, by the majestic river Aliakmona, is the perfect setting for this three-day party, which can entertain up to 6000 Nature and Music lovers.

Seli National Ski Center offers a wide variety of track fields for tourist and race skiing.
The Agios Nikolaos is probably the most famous attraction of Naoussa. It is located about 25 km from Veria.
The barrage of the river Aliakmonas (which is the biggest river in Greece) is located near the city of Veria. It is a very good place for pic-nicing and walking. At the main attraction of this place is the Santa's Village.
The beaches of Methoni and Korinos are very popular in Greece and very good places for the summer vacations.

Shopping and dining

Veria has a lot of shops, in which the visitor can find everything he wants. The most of Veria's shops are in the traditional pedestrial zone.
The visitor must definitely eat in a local tavern, when he visits Veria. The town is full of them, so he can try many different dishes. And, of course, he should eat ravani, a traditional sweet, made in Veria.

In our town we have which are luxurious and modern like Macedonia , Aiges Melathron and Villa Elia.Also we have which are traditional and take us back in time.Such are Agroktima Kapsali ( in greek Αγροκτημα Καψαλη) and Lozitsi.As well the staff is helpful and polite.

1. Barbouta

Barbouta is a traditional quarter passed through by the river Tripotamos which devides the quarter from the quarter of Promitheus. Barbouta is between Promitheus the main part of Veria. It has the shape of a triangle and because of the river, the tree vegetation is very developped, providing a very special beauty in combination with the big traditional houses. It was mostly populated by Judes , before the second W.W . That's why there is an synagogue in this place. About the river, the ancient god of the river was "Olganos" , the brother of "Veria ( the name of the city)" and "Mieza (the old name of the city Naousa)".The place has a very good tavern named after the the quarter with delicious traditional food.

'Footstep of Apostle Paul'

The period of the Ottoman Turkish element was the most numerous in Veria, concentrated in the upper part of the city. When the Turkish people settled in the old town turned churches into mosques. Among them was the Old Cathedral, the Chounkiar Jassim, the Kazaktsi and Dad teke tzasmi. The total number of mosques in Veria was 14. Another area where construction activity was developed public Turkish baths, hammam.

Μosque Μadrassa

It boasts the towering minaret was preserved intact. Located opposite the podium of St. Paul and is the largest and most well-preserved mosque in Veria. 1.Seli ski center

Useful notes:
Seli National Ski Center offers a wide variety of track fields for tourist and race skiing, playgrounds, long distance race paths. It can also hold international matches as it gives thousand of skiers the chance to exercise without limits. The E4 European long distance path passes through there and it has many hiking trails. The excellent snow conditions, the amazing sunshine and low humidity give pleasure to visitors.
The Seli National Ski Center began operations in 1934, which was the year that the first Panhellenic Games were organized and it is also the first organized ski center of the country.
Operation period:
Seli National Ski Center facilities operate from October to April, daily from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., with a possibility of time extension.
Accessibility/Road network:
The Seli National Ski Center stands within easy range of communication with many regional centers of North Greece. The main access to the Ski Center is via the Egnatia motorway and country road Veria-Seli. Eternal access is via the provincial road Naoussa-Seli.

2. Methoni and Korinos beach


The beaches of Korinos and Methoni are 45-50 km from the city of Veria.This places are the best idea for summer tourism. The infrastructure of this coasts (beach bars etc.) is really fascinating!! Furthermore, the traditional taverns have a big variety of choices (fish, meat, salads etc.) and can make people feel pleased and happy!!

3.Pieria


The capital city of the Pieria is Katerini. The tallest mountain in Greece and mythical seat to the Pantheon of twelve Gods, Mount Olympus is situated to the south.
The region of Pieria has many attractions with great archaeological interest and history. The terrain is mountainous but also of of fertile plains (main source of income for the region is agriculture). Pantheon is the tallest peak of Mount Olympus, and is located between Pieria and Larissa.
Pieria has beautiful tourist resorts, in the coastline but also on the Mount Olympus foothills. The diversity of the place, the harmony between mountain and sea, natural beauty, the archaeological sites, the historical monuments, the traditional settlements, sports activities and tourist infrastructure, makes Pieria an attractive destination, for all seasons.

4.Thicket of Agios Nikolaos

The thicket of Agios Nikolaos is a Pan-Hellenic tourist centre of recreation and daylong excursion which is located about 3 kilometres south-west of the heroic town of Naoussa. An earthly paradise in the heart of Imathia. Agios Nicholaos Thicket, at a distance of just 2 kilometres from town, shelters under its enormous plane trees the springs of the Arapitsa River, which with its plentiful waters supplies water for the whole town and irrigates the fertile lands of the entire area. Modern athletic, recreational and resting facilities, places to spend the day and walking paths, small taverns and Vermio municipal hotel offer carefree hours of spiritual euphoria to thousands of visitors. The implementation of the LIFE program in this area for ecological administration and lasting development received an award from the European Union.

Vergina-Veria, the ancient capital of Macedonian.

The Archaeological Site of Aigai is a city located in northern Greece near Vergina. It’s former name was the Archaeological Site of Verina. This site represents an important transition in the European civilization: the transition from city-state to the imperial structure of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. It is the first capital of the Kingdom Macedonia and was discovered in the nineteenth century. This site contains various important important remnants and buildings such as the monumental palace and the necropoli. The professor Manolis Andronikos has disvoved the main finds of the ancient Macedonia. One of them is the tomb of Fillip ll Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great.

Aliakmonas river

Aliakmonas is the longest river in Greece and is located entirely in Greek area with a total length of 297 km. The river comes in Grammes, the country's borders with Albania, and flows into the Aigaio Sea between Thessaloniki and Katerini. Passes from Kastoria, Grevena, Kozani, Imathias, Pieria and poured the Thermaikos Gulf.
